I think time has come for me to finally update this poor neglected thing.
I won't bore you all with the endless list of factual details, but realife has lately been too much demanding and complicated for me to keep a semblance of punctuality.
I had to leave something behind - my online life, mainly - but things seem to have finally settled for some good and I plan to catch up with the many things I neglected, beginning with this journal and friendlist.
God knows I missed it.
As in the best tradition of homecoming, I thought to start with a general cleansing and renewal of the house, and what's better than a shiny new layout to begin with?

I asked something inspired to gorgeous actor Keanu Reeves - whose pretty face I shamelessly borrowed for the main character of a set of stories I wrote - and this absolute prettiness is what she came up with, making me the happiest creature on earth.
Thanks Ronin, you know what it meant for me, sweetheart.

Ah, but he knew it.
Fists clenched into damp pockets as he was hobbling in the rain, scarfaced - tracks dug with a screwdriver, then filled with nothing.
Water melting into sores etched by time - infected.
(Because we are all offsprings of cruel gods, lesser gods who like to see us being consumed and slowly worn out as the trains pass by - day after day. Envious - but why?)
He knew it. The last call, the last memory at the end of a path twisting and writhing like a reptile - as he crouched on the ground, rolling himself up on the cold platform soaked with tears and shit.
And water kept pouring into his wide veiled eye-sockets - as his eyes were being filled with rain.

This is the offspring of another challenge at "eros athanatos".
The challenge was to write a short ficlet inspired to the quote by Nietzsche: "When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares at you."
Rules: The piece had to be between 100 and 200 words (not a word longer), and the quote must appear into the ficlet. Whatever character, whatever pairing as long as it was historical. I chose Harmodios and Aristogeiton on the eve of the tyrants' murder.
The prize I won is this beautiful wallpaper made by Caitli, and inspired to the ficlet. The story can also be read in Italian here.

This was sparkled by a fic challenge on "eros athanatos". The challenge was to write a songfic and to include the lyrics of the song into the story. I never wrote a songfic before, but I wanted to try to make the song's lyrics part of the narration itself, and not just a quote. The song I chose is "fallen embers" by Enya - hence the title. This is the prologue of a story loosely based on "The Godfather" characters. It's been a while since I wanted to write a story with these themes - a noir about love and vengeance, hopes and regrets. And I wanted to set it between America and Sicily. "The Godfather" lovers will recognize some characters, but I think that it could be technically defined an "AU", since I'm going to develop a slightly different storyline, and to present many original characters. So basically you won't need to have seen the movies to understand what's going on.

This is a very lovely, lovely thing I found almost by chance.
There is this short movie, called "starcrossed" - about two brothers who suddenly find themselves in love with each other. This is what IMDB has to say about it:
Darren and Connor are two star-crossed lovers bound together by blood. Set in a suburban neighborhood, "Star-crossed" is an atmospheric story of two brothers whose relationship develops into something more than society could handle.
Unable to deny their feelings for each other the two brothers try to hide their relationship from an unkind world but they fail. The boys decide that a world that can't understand them is a world that's not for them.

It's even dial-up friendly, for - as I said - it's very short.
I found it utterly enjoyable: the graceful way the director handles the story of the brothers, the acting, even the physical appearance of the two boys (very much erastes/eromenos-like). Delightful and poignant - with a bittersweet quality that left me sighing all along.
Just take a look. Believe me, it's worth it. |

This is a story about the Sacred Band of Thebes I wrote some time ago. The Italian version of this tale was recently chosen for publication on the Italian magazine "voci" by Kappa edizioni, and the story has been illustrated by a couple of professional illustrators. I'm going to post the scans of the beautiful illustrations at the end of the story.
